Maxgear have today announced the setting up of their new Junior Development Programme for 2012. The team, to be known as Champion System - Maxgear Racing Team, will be fully funded by Champion System and will also be sponsored by some of the world’s leading cycling brands with bicycles and components.
After a fantastic year which saw the team win races such as the Revolution track series, beating the likes of Team Sky and Rapha, Maxgear were asked by Champion System, the world’s leading custom clothing manufacturer to set up a Junior Development Programme in the UK.
The team, started 4 years ago, has always looked to develop riders with the likes of Richard Handley (Raleigh), Adam and Simon Yates (World Madison and 2010 Junior Road Race series winner, now riding with the 100% ME team), and Anna Fischer (Nutrixxion) to name but a few graduating to higher levels in cycling.
“Sometimes we’ve been too successful “, commented team manager / rider Wayne Greenhalgh. “We seem to have a knack for spotting talent and then losing the rider to a professional team. Now we have a direct link to a Pro-Continental team and if the riders are good enough, who knows, they could have a fast-track to a big team”
This exciting venture sees 5 lucky Junior riders, including 6 times National Champion Chris Lawless, former multiple Hill Climb Champion Hugh Carthy, Madison Champion Jacob Ragan, Silver Medallist Chris Latham and talented rider Luc Hall, targeting the best of British and European Junior races in 2012.
“The programme is the first fully funded Junior team with a direct link to a Pro-Continental team to be established in the UK. Champion System, as well as producing the best custom clothing in the world, are very passionate about cycling and want to invest back into the sport by helping to develop young riders. They also see the UK as a hotbed of talent and would like to get hold of the next Cavendish or Wiggins. This team is exactly what UK cycling needs if we want to keep producing world class riders who will one day
win a Grand Tour.”
Maxgear’s success in 2011 has had its rewards and the team will shortly announce its long list of sponsors for 2012. The team is sure to be the best looking squad out there with Champion System as title sponsor. The team will not only have monetary funding but will be kitted out in stylish, pro-quality gear including the new eye-catching ‘W.A.S.P” speedsuit – Wattage-saving, Aerodynamic, Speed Products.
Champion System UK Director Ciaran Dunne commented, “Maxgear and Champion System are proud to continue their sponsorship for 2012. The Team has represented the two brands for the past 3 years, and now we’ve put even more resources into sponsorship to help develop it further. The team will be kitted out with all of Champion System’s latest performance clothing products in 2012. ‘
